MAKING HISTORIES VISIBLE
We hold a small but important collection of paper works. We have acquired, through generous donations and long loans, a number of
original fine art prints, pencil and ink drawings and photographs by contemporary artists of the black diaspora. Selected pieces are
available for display for short periods as part of local community arts festivals and we are hoping soon to begin to tour a larger number of
pieces to even more venues cross the region.
The Making Histories Visible Collection includes work by Sonia Boyce, Paul Clarkson, Chantal Oakes, Chris Ofili, Ingrid Pollard and
Lubaina Himid. Our activities around these fascinating examples of works on paper include the preparation of a modest illustrated
publication; planned symposia on, for example, collecting the work of black artists; study days for students and scholars to engage with
the work at close hand.
This is a unique collection of paperworks by regional, national and international black Artists , and is the only collection of its kind in the
North West.
Two works from this collection were featured in Thin Black Line(s) Tate Britain August - March 2012
We are grateful to a number of private collectors for their support.
